World Food Day began on October 16, 1981, and is observed annually on October 16, when governments around the world hold commemorative events to promote food and agricultural development. To help children develop the habit of cherishing food from an early age, Peiyi Kindergarten organized the “I Am a Pursuer of Light” themed activity.
Cherishing Food – Everyone’s Responsibility
Teachers in each class introduced “World Food Day” to the children through the theme “I Am a Pursuer of Light.” They used picture books, ancient poems, and stories to help the children understand how difficult it is to grow food.
Delicious Food Making – Gratefulness
Participation brings joy, creation brings pleasure, and cooperation brings happiness. There is joy in all of it. Children’s creativity is the source of inspiration for delicious food, and involving them further deepens their understanding of food. It also helps them realize that their mother, who cooks for them, has put in a lot of effort to make delicious meals. They should cherish food and be grateful to their mother for her selfless efforts.
Eat Up Campaign – It Starts with Me
After learning the importance of saving food, children took action by changing their picky eating habits and no longer leaving leftovers. They made sure to finish all their food at mealtimes, demonstrating their commitment to reducing food waste.
Peiyi Kindergarten “Eat Up Campaign” Proposal
Dear Parents and Children:
There is a type of thrift that is honorable and a kind of public service called “Eat Up.” The so-called “Eat Up” means finishing all the food on your plate.Currently, the amount of food wasted at dining tables is staggering. “Waste on the tip of the tongue” is alarming, and waste is happening everywhere around us. Every year, China wastes an amount of food equivalent to approximately 50 billion kilograms of grain, nearly one-tenth of the country’s total grain production, which is enough to feed 200 million people for a year. To further promote the Chinese virtue of diligence and thrift, let’s all say “NO” to “waste on the tip of the tongue.” On this World Food Day, our kindergarten is launching the “Eat Up Campaign” and calling on all students, teachers, and parents to join us:
1. Cherish food, avoid leftovers, and reduce extravagant waste.
2. Take pride in saving and feel ashamed of waste.
3. Serve only as much food as you can eat, and avoid throwing away leftovers.
4. Remind colleagues and friends around you to actively stop food waste.
5. Be a promoter of thrift, and advocate for food conservation among family, relatives, and friends.
6. Actively participate in the Civilized Dining Table Campaign and foster a good habit of saving food while dining.
Eat Up Campaign” – Start with Me
At kindergartens or at home during meals, teachers and parents should teach children how difficult it is to produce food and encourage them to eat without being picky or wasteful. Children should practice the “Eat Up Campaign” by taking only as much food as they can eat and not leaving any leftovers. Let’s say no to waste and cherish food by finishing everything on our plates!
Encourage Others to Be Mindful of Waste
Be a practitioner and promoter of the “Eat Up Campaign”. If you see friends or family members wasting food, remind them to avoid waste. Take pride in saving and consider waste shameful. Let’s loudly say no to waste!
一粥一饭,当思来之不易;
Every bowl of porridge and every meal should remind us that they are not easily obtained;
Every thread and every piece of fabric should constantly remind us of the hardships behind them.
Diligence and thrift are traditional virtues of the Chinese nation.
On World Food Day,
Let’s practice the “Clear Your Plate” action
And develop the good habit of saving food.
Eliminate food waste
And promote the virtue of thrift.
