Great Heat
Song (Zeng Ji)
When will the scorching sun pass and
the gentle breeze be nowhere to be found.
The scriptures are discussed in the pillow book,
and the fruits and vegetables are floating and sinking.
Lan Ruojing is calm again,
Maoci is getting deeper.
Yan Zheng is like this,
but it’s even more precious to separate yin.
The Origin of Great Heat
The Dashu solar term is the 12th solar term of the 24 solar terms, and also the last solar term of summer. Generally, the beginning of the Dashu solar term is around July 22-24 in the Gregorian calendar. Shu “means hot. This solar term is the hottest time of the year, when the ground absorbs more heat than dissipates it, and the air pressure is relatively low. It is considered hot and humid, hence the name” Great Heat “.

Characteristics of the Great Heat Weather
The Dashu solar term falls around the middle of the “Sanfu” period, which is the hottest time of the year. During the Great Heat season, the sunshine is intense, the temperature is high, humid, and rainy. Although there may be unbearable heat and humidity, it is very beneficial for the growth of crops, and crops grow the fastest during this period.

Three solar terms of Dashu
The decaying grass turns into fireflies. I still remember when I was a child, after dinner in the summer, adults and children would come to the alley in twos and threes. The stuffiness of the day seemed to dissipate a bit, and waves of cool breeze blew by. Children ran happily from one end to the other, occasionally encountering a group of fireflies, which was the happiest thing of the whole summer. Nowadays, children may rarely have the opportunity to have such moments, so the teacher took the children to draw the “Summer Firefly Map” together, got to know fireflies, and let’s take a look at the children’s fireflies!
The second season means that the weather is becoming hot and humid, and the land is also very damp.
The third season refers to the frequent occurrence of heavy thunderstorms, which weaken the heat and humidity, and make the weather cooler and cooler. Autumn is coming soon, and there is a saying among the people that there will be one autumn rain and one cold.
In this scorching sun like weather, teachers at Baston Kindergarten introduce children to the phenological characteristics, customs, ancient poems, and precautions of the Great Heat, helping them understand the meaning behind the phenological phenomena it represents. This not only symbolizes the seasons of time, but also represents the history of human coexistence and the crystallization of culture.
