寒霜至，冬渐临|Frost solstice, winter is coming

霜降，是二十四节气中的第十八个节气，是秋季的最后一个节气，基本出现在每年公历10月23日左右。进入霜降节气后，深秋景象明显，冷空气南下越来越频繁。“霜降”节气反映的是天气渐渐变冷的气候特征，也意味着冬天即将开始。

Frostfall, the eighteenth solar term among the twenty-four solar terms, is the last solar term in autumn, and basically occurs around October 23 of the Gregorian calendar every year. After entering the frost solar term, the scene of late autumn is obvious, and cold air goes south more and more frequently. The “frost fall” solar term reflects the climate characteristics of gradually colder weather, which also means that winter is about to begin.

霜降分为三候：一候豺乃祭兽；二候草木黄落；三候蜇虫咸俯。此时豺这类动物开始捕获猎物过冬；树叶都枯黄掉落；冬眠的动物也藏在洞中不动不食进入冬眠状态中。

Frost customs

1、吃柿子|Eat persimmons：

我国很多地区都有霜降吃柿子的习惯，在当地人看来，这样不但可以御寒保暖，同时还能补筋骨。有些地方对于这个习俗的解释是：霜降这天要吃杮子，不然整个冬天嘴唇都会裂开。

Many areas of our country have the habit of eating persimmons when frost falls, and in the eyes of locals, this can not only keep warm from the cold, but also replenish the muscles and bones. Some places explain this custom as eating berries on the day of frost, otherwise your lips will be cracked throughout the winter.

2、饮酒赏菊|Drinking and rewarding chrysanthemums：

霜降时节正是秋菊盛开的时候，中国很多地方在这时要举行菊花会，赏菊饮酒，以示对菊花的崇敬和爱戴。古代还有“霜打菊花开”的说法，所以赏菊花也成为了霜降这一节令的雅事。

The frost season is when autumn chrysanthemums are in full bloom, and many places in China hold chrysanthemum parties at this time, and drink to show their reverence and love for chrysanthemums. In ancient times, there was also a saying that “frost hit chrysanthemums bloom”, so viewing chrysanthemums has also become an elegant event for the festival of frost falling.

3、进补|Supplement：

民间有“补冬不如补霜降”的说法，霜降来临后，人们都会吃一些进补的食物。因此，霜降时节，民间有“煲羊肉”、“煲羊头”、“迎霜兔肉”的食俗。

There is a saying that “making up for winter is not as good as making up for frost”, and after the frost comes, people will eat some tonic food. Therefore, during the frost season, the folk have the customs of “boiling mutton”, “boiling sheep’s head” and “welcoming frost rabbit meat”.

4、登高远眺|Climb high and overlook：

秋季山林、高山空气新鲜，大气中的浮尘和污染物较少。霜降时节登高远眺，既可使肺的功能得到舒畅，同时登至高处极目远眺，心旷神怡，还可舒缓心情。

In autumn, the mountain forest and alpine air is fresh, and there is less floating dust and pollutants in the atmosphere. Climbing high and looking far during the frost season can not only relax the function of the lungs, but also climb to the top to overlook the distance, which is pleasant and soothes.

5、扫墓祭祖|Sweep the tomb and worship the ancestors：

《清通礼》云：“岁，寒食及霜降节，拜扫圹茔，届期素服诣墓，具酒馔及芟剪草木之器，周胝封树，剪除荆草，故称扫墓。”并相传至今。

“Qing Tong Li” Yun: “Year, cold food and frost festival, worship the tomb, the period of vegetarian clothing, with wine and grass cutting vessel, Zhou Qing seals the tree, cut the wattle grass, so it is called tomb sweeping.” And it has been passed down to this day.

霜降敛尽世间的繁华，人间归于美食，世间归于美景，霜降在为最后的秋日做沉淀，收藏最美的风光，秋去冬来，岁月已然静好。

元稹说：

风卷清云尽，空天万里霜。

野豺先祭月，仙菊遇重阳。

秋风萧瑟天气凉 ，草木摇落露为霜。

The autumn breeze is bleak and the weather is cool,

正如，白居易在《岁晚》里写到（节选）：

霜降水返壑，风落木归山。

冉冉岁将宴，物皆复本源。

As Bai Juyi wrote in “The Late Years” (excerpt):

Frost and precipitation return to the ravine, 

and the wind falls back to the mountain.

The rising years will feast,
