Dragon Boat Festival is here again!
又是一年端午到。
Since ancient times, wearing a sachet is an essential custom during Dragon Boat Festival. A “sachet” is what we call a “Scent Bag” today. We usually put traditional Chinese herbs and spices into small colorful cloth bags and the fragrance of the bag can prevent people from insect bites. It has long been a tradition that people carry a scent bag during the Dragon Boat Festival.
“What is inside the scent bag?”
“Why do you wear a scent bag on your body? Is it the same as Mom’s perfume?”
“How are scent bags made? I want to make one too!”
从古至今，佩戴香囊就是端午节必不可少的习俗。“香囊”就是我们今天所说的“香包”，五彩斑斓的色彩，清香的气味，佩戴在身上满满的端午仪式感。
“老师，香包里面装的什么东西呀？”
“老师，戴香包在身上有什么用？它和妈妈用的香水一样吗？”
“老师，香包是怎么做的呀？我也想做一个！”
How to make a scent bag? First of all, the scent bags need beautiful bags that are filled with herbal medicines.
如何做一个香包呢？
首先，香包需要漂亮的袋子。

First, children designed their own sachet bags by drawing patterns, cutting cloth, threading needles and sewing the pieces together. Take a look at the children’s designs below!

DIY Dragon Boat Festival Sachet
端午节香包DIY
Around the Dragon Boat Festival, at the end of spring and the summer solstice, humidity is heavy, and the five poisons are lurking. Therefore, in ancient times, people would place herbs and spices with different effects in the sachet to ward off evil spirits and toxins.
We discussed these with the children, found a variety of herbs and spices, and sorted them by classification. The children closely looked, smelled, and touched the different spices and herbs and noted that there were so many different looking ingredients and tastes!
端午节前后，春末夏至，湿气蒸腾，五毒尽出，所以古时候人们会在香包里放置不同功效的药草和香料，驱邪避毒。
所以我们和小朋友们共同商讨，找来了各种药草香料，分类摆放出来。小朋友们通过近距离的看、闻、摸，纷纷表示，原来香料还有这么多不同的样子和味道啊！

Having learned about so many different spices, how do we mix the sachets now? If we want to make various sachets that have different remedies or benefits, the correct combination of spices must be learned!
The class teacher then helped the children research various formulas, and the children selected four sachet formulas with different effects and drew and presented different solutions by themselves.
了解了这么多不同的香料后，香包要怎么搭配呢？想要有不同的功效，香料的组合可大有学问呢！
老师帮助小朋友们搜索了各种香包的配方，小朋友们选出了四种不同功效的香包配方，并亲手绘制成了示意图。
Each spice should not only be paired correctly, but also proportioned correctly.
每种香料不仅要按照搭配来，还要按照配比放呢。
我们需要用到这些工具
We need to use these tools:
Measuring Spoon 量勺
For picking up spices, so they remain clean and sanitary.
用来拿取香料，干净卫生。
Building blocks 积木
Instead of weights, we place the correct number of small building blocks on the balance tray.
代替砝码，放置相应块数的小积木到天平托盘。
Scale 天平
A tool used to weigh spices. A tray is placed with the corresponding number of small building blocks on one side and the spices on the other. When the needle on the balance points to the red line in the middle, it indicates that the amount of spices is enough.
用来称香料的工具，一边托盘放相应块数的小积木，一边托盘放香料，天平上的指针指向中间的红线时，说明香料已经足够了。
Mission card 任务卡
The children designed and drew the mission cards. When making the scent bag, we need to weigh the different spices according to the information on the mission card, and then put them into the scent bag.
小朋友亲自设计绘制了任务卡。制作香包时，需要按照任务卡上的信息，把不同香料按配比依次称量好，最后放入香包。
