我的孩子去公立学校能适应吗?
简短的答案是:能。蒙特梭利孩子是富有好奇心、有自信的学生,知道如何学习并懂得尊重他人、有强烈的责任感。这些技能在传统学校中也能帮助到学生。
让我们从长远来看看大家关心的两个主要领域:学术上的变化(考试,书面作业,家庭作业)以及进入传统一年级环境所需的情绪过渡。
学术上的变化
传统的一年级肯定更加结构化,选择更少,活动的自由也更少。要适应这种变化通常需要一或两个月,但这种适应的必要性并没有理由让孩子失去上一年级前可以获得自由、尊重和责任心。
传统课堂会遵循更严格管制的日程安排,我们的孩子在上的英文和中文课时已经会有所体会,跟公立学校较为接近,虽然我们的课堂远没有那么严格而且比传统课堂更灵活。这样其实就是帮助孩子们过渡到传统课堂了。
课堂书面作业和家庭作业数量的增多是一年级的一个明显特征,不过但凡声誉较好的幼儿园都不该让幼儿做作业。年龄小的孩子是通过各种感官来学习的,由于孩子这种智力发育的方式,上一年级之前都不应该有家庭作业。
情绪过渡
蒙特梭利孩子要适应在传统课堂中的活动选择更少,要适应在同一时间里和其他同龄人做同样的活动。再重复一次,这确实需要一个过渡,但是这并不是一个正当理由去剥夺他们上一年级前的自由。
在蒙特梭利环境中成长的学生总说怀念混龄上课的班级,但是他们在更大的传统学校里能与其他班级里的大孩子接触,这样弥补了他们这方面的缺憾。
考试焦虑也存在于一些一年级生上,但让幼儿接受严格管制的考试是不适宜的。
最后,你的孩子会做得很好的。一年级是所有孩子都要过渡的,不管他们的学前教育方法是怎样的。蒙特梭利孩子是带着自我激励,自律,强烈责任感和学习的实践能力来到一年级的。所有这些技能都能帮助孩子顺利过渡到公立学校。
如果你让孩子上幼儿园的目标是使你的孩子适应于服从命令,学习顺从,那蒙特梭利或许不是你的第一选择。如果你的目标是为他们的成功人生打下坚实的基础,包括处理任何类型的过渡的能力,那蒙特梭利教育方法会是一个很好的开始。
过渡技巧
1. 在家里为孩子创建一个专用的家庭作业空间。计划好空间和时间,这样孩子会对在家里发生的学习上的事情有主人翁意识。
2. 在去上一年级前的夏天,可以在家里用有趣的智力解谜练习册或者逻辑书籍来让孩子探索使用练习册。让他们在无压力的环境下去练习填答案。
3. 入学前安排孩子和他们的新同学一起玩,加快他们建立关系的过程。
4. 对于即将到来的变化要对孩子实话实说,并在他们过渡期间不断地从他们身上得反馈。
Will my child adjust to public school?
The short answer is yes. Montessori children are curious, self-confident studentshow know how to learn and who have a strong sense of respect andresponsibility. These skills serve them well in traditional school.
Fora longer answer, let’s look at the two main areas ofconcern: the academic changes (tests, paperwork, homework) and the emotionaltransitions required of entry to a traditional first grade environment.
Academicchanges
A traditional first grade is definitely more structured, with less choice andless freedom of movement. Adapting to this change typically takes a month ortwo but the necessity of adaptation is no reason to deny your child freedom,respect and responsibility prior to first grade. What happens in the classroomprior to first grade builds an invaluable life foundation that transcends theschoolroom.
While traditional classrooms follow a more regimented schedule, the experience of ourchildren in our English and Chinese classes, while far less strict and morefluid than a traditional classroom, has a close enough approximation to thepublic school experience that our children are not shocked by the transition.
An increased amount of in-class paperwork and homework is a distinct feature offirst grade but no reputable kindergarten should be employing these techniques.Younger children learn in a tactile manner and the transition to homework isbest delayed until first grade due to the ways in which children developmentally.
EmotionalTransition
Montessori children will have to adjust to having fewer activity choices and learn to workon the same activity as their peers during the same time period. Again, thisdoes require a transition but this is not a valid reason to deny such freedomprior to first grade.
While Montessori students often report missing a mixed-age classroom, their abilityto engage with older peers from other classes in the larger school oftencompensates for this change.
Test-takinganxiety is also present in some first graders but it would be inappropriate toexpose younger students to regimented tests.
