Make a Rainbow

制作彩虹

A rainbow is an arc of colour in the sky that can be seen when the sun shines through falling rain.

Rainbows are always a beautiful surprise in the sky, but did you know that you can make one yourself at home?

At home, with just a source of light like a torch and a glass of water, you can make rainbows too! When we shine light through a glass of water, we can see the spectrum of colours that make up a rainbow.

彩虹是天空中的彩色弧线，可遇不可求，在远处下着雨，近处有太阳的时候，你如果背对着太阳，面朝下雨的地方，你就有可能看见彩虹。

彩虹是天空给予我们的惊喜。其实，我们也可以让彩虹出现在家里，一起动手试一试吧！

想在家让彩虹出现，我们只需要一个玻璃杯，水，和一个光源，例如手电筒。光照在盛有水的玻璃杯上，彩虹就出现了。如果没有光源，增加一面小镜子，利用太阳光也能让彩虹在家里出现。

1. Fill the glass with water.

2. Put the mirror into the water inside the glass at an angle.

3. Place the glass so that sunlight shines directly at the mirror. You may have to move the mirror to find the right angle.

4. Look for a reflection on a wall.

5. Adjust the angle of the mirror until you see a rainbow on the wall.

There you go! Now you don’t need to wait until there is sun and rain to see a rainbow, you can make one yourself at home! There are 7 colours in the rainbow; violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, which colours can you see?

Fizzy Ice Block Toy Rescue

Rescue your toys from an ice block and watch a chemical reaction!

玩具困在冰块里了！我们一起把他们救出来吧！记得观察玩具出来时的神奇现象，这是一种化学反应。

What you need:

Some small plastic toys

Container filled with water

Baking Soda

Vinegar

Bowl

Eyedropper or baby spoon

空的眼药水瓶或婴儿汤匙

1. Mix water and baking soda in the container to form a paste.

2. Place the toys in the mixture and put the container in a freezer until frozen.

3. Set the container on a tray and eyedrop or spoon the vinegar little by little to melt the ice and rescue your toys!

1. 将容器中的水和小苏打混合成糊状。

2. 将玩具放入混合物中，并将容器放入冰箱中冷冻。

3. 把容器放在托盘上，用空的眼药水瓶灌满醋，一滴一滴滴在冰块上。也可以用婴儿汤勺一点点把醋浇在冰块上，等冰块融化，你的玩具就得救了。

When baking soda and vinegar mix together, gas is released which makes fizzy fun!

小苏打和醋混合在一起是就会“嗞嗞”地放出气体，你还能看到很多白泡泡，这就是看得见的化学反应。

Could you rescue your toys? How long did it take you? Could you rescue them faster if you used more vinegar? This is a super fun activity for a hot summer day to keep cool and play with ice!

Solar Oven

太阳能烤箱

No campfire needed with this super summer engineering project! Build your own solar oven with a few materials that you can find at home and enjoy some marshmallow s’more snacks!

太阳能烤箱，是不是很神奇？只需要一些常用的物品就可以制作太阳能烤箱了，这个烤箱真的能做出美味的棉花糖三明治，一起试试吧！

What you need:

Shoe box

Craft knife

Aluminium foil

Glue or double sided tape

Black paper

Plastic food wrap

Wooden Skewer

Marshmallows, chocolate and biscuits for s’mores

鞋盒

美工刀

铝箔

胶水或双面胶带

黑纸

棉花糖，巧克力和饼干

1. Draw a rectangle on the lid of the box and carefully cut it out.

2. Wrap the rectangle in foil and set aside.

3. Open the box and glue black paper to the bottom of the box.

4. On the inside of the lid, glue a piece of plastic wrap over the rectangle cut out.

5. Build your s’mores and place them in the box.

6. Close the box and glue one edge of the foil-wrapped cardboard on top of the box.

7. Glue a skewer on the top left corner of the foil-wrapped cardboard and place the other end through the plastic wrap to hold the foil-wrapped cardboard in place.

8. Place your DIY solar oven in the hot sun and wait 60 minutes to watch your marshmallows and chocolate melt!

1. 在鞋盒的盖子上画一个长方形，把它整齐地剪下来。

2. 在长方形纸板上裹上一层锡箔纸，放在一边备用。

3. 把黑卡纸粘在鞋盒的底部。

4. 在长方形纸板的内侧粘上保鲜膜。

5. 把做好的棉花糖三明治放在鞋盒里。

6. 将裹着铝箔纸的纸板粘在盒子的顶部，合上鞋盒。

7. 在纸板的左上角粘上一根签子，并在另一端利用保鲜膜把纸板固定好。

8. 把你自制的太阳能烤箱放在烈日下60分钟，直到三明治里的棉花糖和巧克力融化，就大功告成了！
