This Autumn our children have been delving into the amazing world of art and have been touched by the works of famous artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Henri Matisse, Gustav Klimt and Bridget Riley, to name a few.

A particular favourite was British environmentalist Andy Goldsworthy. Andy Goldsworthy is noted for his sculptural works using natural materials and the great outdoors as his canvas.

Andy Goldsworthy
This was a wonderful opportunity for our children to explore an alternative artistic practice and build a bridge between indoor and outdoor learning. We made full use of the outdoor resources available in our SCLK garden, which enabled our children to express their ideas.
对孩子来说,这是极好的探索另一种艺术实践的机会,并在室内和户外学习之间,架起了一座桥梁。我们在校园里就地取材,它们可以让孩子们表达自己的想法。
We would like to take this opportunity to share the artistic processes our children participated in, so that you can then further develop these skills in your own outdoor environment.Our children created Sunlight Sculptures and Symmetrical Mandalas. We also used the storybook, ‘Leaf Man’ as a vehichle to inspire our children to create their own ‘Leaf Man’ stories and illustrations.
我们借此机会分享孩子们参与的艺术过程,家长们在家中,也可以利用户外环境,鼓励他们拓展更多的技能。孩子们用树叶创造了“自然光影雕刻”及“对称的曼陀罗”,老师用故事书《树叶先生》作为载体,启发孩子创作出自己 “树叶先生”的故事和插图。

Leaf Man
《树叶先生》
Read the story book ‘Leaf Man’, by Lois Ehlert. Elhert, it is well known for her collage style of illustrating, using natural materials to create colourful and beautiful scenes.
阅读露易丝.艾勒特的《树叶先生》,她擅长用拼贴式的方法做插画,来创造多姿多彩的场景。
Children can become inspired by the ‘Leaf Man’s’ illustrations, they can take photographs of leaves and can then go on to create whatever they are interested in. Hence, this is the starting point of your ‘Leaf Man’ journey.

Symmetrical Mandalas

In Andy Goldsworthy’s art we can see elements of symmetry and shape. By observing the symmetry of the lines, children are able to go outside to find materials in nature and can implement Andy Goldworthy’s methods and free creation in their own artistic creations.
在安迪的作品中,我们可以看到对称和形状的元素。孩子们通过观察线条的对称性,走出去寻找大自然中的材料,并体现在自由的艺术创作中。
You can guide your children to be creative at home, by exploring and using a variety of natural materials that are at their fingertips. Children can practice subtraction and addition, build patterns, make shapes and so on. Mathematics, music and other different disciplines can also be naturally integrated into their artistic creations.
你们可以引导孩子们在家里发挥创造力,利用各种天然的材料,比如树叶:进行加、减法的练习;建构各种图形;将数学、音乐等不同的元素融合,进行艺术创作。
This may appear to be a very simplistic themed project, however the process of exploring the works of a particular artist and allowing children to experience the concepts and meaning of the artistic processes, enables them to grow and develop an ongoing interest in nature and art!
看似一个简单的主题,但在孩子们通过探索特定艺术家作品的过程中,会让他们体验艺术过程的概念和意义,让他们成长,并产生对自然和艺术的兴趣!
