Mid-Autumn Festival
Long time ago, because of Hou Yi’s achievements in shooting the sun, he was respected and loved by the people. Soon, Hou Yi married a beautiful and kind wife named Chang’e. People were envious of this loving couple.
Then, ten suns appeared in the sky, the was no crops, and the people had no water to drink. Hou Yi couldn’t bear to see the people suffer, so he shot down nine suns in one breath.
After Hou Yi rescued the people, everyone admired him very much, and many people came to learn from him, one of them was a bad guy named Pengmeng.
Hou Yi went to Kunlun Mountains to visit friends and begged for Taoism. When he met the Queen Mother, he asked the Queen Mother for a package of elixir of immortality. It is said that if you take this medicine, you can instantly ascend to heaven and become immortal. However, Hou Yi was reluctant to leave his wife and had to temporarily hand over the elixir of immortality to Chang’e for safekeeping.
Chang’e hid the medicine in the treasure box on the dresser, but Pengmeng saw it. Three days later, Hou Yi went out to hunt, and Peng Meng, Pengmeng broke into the backyard of the inner house with a sword in hand, forcing Chang’e to hand over the elixir of immortality.
Chang’e knew that she was not Pengmeng’s opponent. When she was in crisis, she made a decisive decision, turned around and opened the treasure box, took out the elixir and swallowed it. Chang’e swallowed the medicine, her body immediately floated off the ground, rushed out of the window, and flew into the sky. Because Chang’e was worried about her husband, she flew to the moon closest to the world and became a fairy.
Later, the people set up incense tables under the moon to offer sacrifices to the moon, and prayed for peace and auspiciousness to the kind-hearted Chang’e.

月饼的由来
The origin of moon cakes
Mid-Autumn
Festival
According to legend, the custom of eating moon cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival began in the Yuan Dynasty.
At that time, the people could not bear the cruel rule of the ruling class of the Yuan Dynasty, and they revolted against the Yuan Dynasty one after another. Zhu Yuanzhang united various resistance forces to prepare for an uprising. However, the court officers and soldiers searched very closely, and it was very difficult to transmit information. The military adviser Liu Bowen came up with a plan, ordering his subordinates to hide the notes containing “August 15th Night Uprising” in the pancakes, and then dispatched people to send them to the rebel armies in various places, informing them that they would respond to the uprising on the night of August 15th. . On the day of the uprising, the rebels from all walks of life responded together. Soon, Xu Da captured Yuan Dadu. When the news spread around, Zhu Yuanzhang was so happy that he hurriedly passed down an oral decree. On the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, let all the soldiers and the people have fun together, and reward the ministers with the “moon cakes” that secretly conveyed information when the army was raised.
此后,“月饼”制作越发精细,品种更多,大者如圆盘,成为馈赠的佳品。以后中秋节吃月饼的习俗便在民间流传开来。
Since then, the production of “moon cakes” has become more and more sophisticated. Later, the custom of eating moon cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival spread among the people.
