November is Fire Safety Awareness Month! Young children are the most vulnerable in the instance of a fire at home. However, many home fires are started by children playing with dangerous household items – especially lighters and matches. Taking sensible precautions at home and teaching your child how to escape from a fire can help your family avoid this type of heartbreak.

十一月是消防安全月。当家庭火灾发生时，儿童是最容易受到伤害的人群。然而不幸的是，许多家庭火灾是由儿童玩耍危险的家用物品引起的——尤其是打火机和火柴。在家中采取有效的消防安全措施，教孩子学会火场逃生的技能，有助于避免类似悲剧的发生。

Every home must have working smoke alarms on each level and in bedrooms. A grown-up should test all smoke alarms at least once a month. Memorize your address and the emergency phone number of your fire department. In China, it’s 119.

Activity: Fire Cup Knock Down Game

Talk to your child about fire-fighters and show them photos of real firefighters in their full gear- during a real emergency, many children don’t want to go with the fire-fighters because they are scared of what they look like!

和孩子聊一聊消防员叔叔，让他们熟悉全副武装的消防员叔叔的照片。这样的话，当真实的火灾发生时，孩子就不会惧怕消防员叔叔，愿意跟着他们逃离火场。

Now it’s time to role play firefighters!

? Decorate several red cups to look like fire

? Allow your child to role play a “fire fighter” and put out the mini-fires by shooting the water gun at the cups!

? You can make it into a competition between two children to see who can put out the most fires, ie. who can knock over the most cups!

Every family should have a fire plan! Practice a home fire drill at least twice a year.

Activity: Create a Fire Escape Plan

Sit down with your family at home and create a fire escape plan to use in the event of an emergency. You can draw a simple house plan, marking each room and arrows pointing to where to exit in the event of a fire. All family members should know where to meet up once they exit the house. Practice this for several times. You can also take the time to do a test of your smoke alarms so the children know what they sound do! You can also role-play stop, drop, and roll!

一家人围坐一起共同制订消防逃生计划吧。你可以先画下简单的房屋结构，标记每一个房间的位置，然后用箭头指向安全出口。所有的家庭成员都应该知道房子外面的集合地点。别忘了多演练几遍哦！你也可以检测一下家中的烟雾探测器，让孩子听一听烟雾探测器报警的声音。你们还可以进行角色扮演——停下来，倒在地上，开始滚动！

Be careful with fire! Matches, lighters, candles, cigarettes, and fireworks are dangerous – don’t play with them! Kids should only cook under the careful supervision of an adult and space heaters must have at least one meter of clearance from anything that can burn.

小心用火！请勿玩耍火柴、打火机、蜡烛、香烟和烟花爆竹等危险物品。孩子们只能在成人的仔细监督下做饭。取暖器必须与所有可燃物保持至少一米的距离。

Activity: Fire Safety Scavenger Hunt

Talk to your child about what fire risks and what fire safety and prevention items you have in your house. Give your child green and red stickers or post-it notes and have them go on a fire safety scavenger hunt. The children can mark “dangerous” items like candles, matches, lighters, cooking equipment, and space heaters with a red sticker. The children can then mark the safety and prevention items with a green sticker – mark smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, exits, etc.

和孩子聊一聊消防隐患是什么，家里有哪些消防安全物品。给孩子绿色和红色的贴纸或者便利贴。孩子们可以用红色贴纸标记蜡烛、火柴、打火机、厨具、取暖器等“危险物品”，用绿色贴纸标记烟雾探测器、灭火器、安全出口等安全物品。

If a fire happens, get out and stay out. Stop, drop, and roll if your clothing should catch fire. Cover your face with your hands and roll until the fire is out.

如遇火灾，请立即离开家，待在室外。如果衣服着火，请立刻停下，倒在地上，并不停滚动。记住用手把自己的脸遮住，在地上滚动直到火熄灭。
