The origin of “Ear Day”
EAR-CARE DAY
//
“Ear Day” was first proposed in March 1998 at the first meeting of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Conference. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, there were a large number of newly born deaf children in China, and there was a great demand for rehabilitation. However, due to economic conditions and technical limitations, the annual training capacity could only reach no more than 20,000. Therefore, in addition to taking necessary rehabilitation measures, it is a very important task to actively carry out prevention, prevent the occurrence of deafness, and control the number of newborn deaf children. To this end, ten departments including the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and the Ministry of Health jointly determined March 3rd each year as the National “Ear Day” and launched the first “Ear Day” publicity and education activities in March 2000. My country’s outstanding achievements have attracted the attention of the World Health Organization. In March 2013, the World Health Organization designated “China Ears Day” as “International Ears Day”

Make sure that hearing damage is irreversible
Do you wear headphones every day? Do you always visit Often noisy places? Quickly touch your ears and ask: Are you okay? Because hearing loss is irreversible…
· Currently, approximately 466 million people worldwide suffer from disabling hearing loss, including 34 million children. 1.1 billion young people aged 12-35 are at risk of hearing loss due to noise in entertainment venues.
· The first global hearing report released by the World Health Organization today estimates that by 2050, nearly a quarter of the world’s people will experience some degree of hearing loss.
· Many effects of hearing loss can be mitigated by early detection and early intervention! Let us first understand which behaviors are ear-damaging, avoid and take care of your ears!

What behaviors are ear-damaging?
Inadvertently check ears before and after swimming
· There are many ear diseases caused by water in the ear canal and choking while swimming, mainly including otitis and external otitis. Children are at a high risk of such diseases. Common symptoms are ear discomfort, ear swelling, pain, hearing loss, and pus. There are bacteria in the swimming pool water. Children’s Eustachian tubes are still in the developmental stage. Coupled with low resistance, bacteria located in the ear, nose, and throat are more likely to invade and cause inflammation.
Abuse of antibiotics
· Drug-induced deafness caused by the abuse of antibiotics is more common in children. Some antibiotics such as the common neomycin, gentamicin, etc. can control the infection well, and the side effect that can cause at the same time is to damage the brain nerves and cause deafness. There is no good treatment for this kind of drug-induced deafness, and it is best to detect it early and prevent it.
Excessive fatigue and excessive stress
· At present, most of the sudden deafness is young people aged 25-40. The reason is still unclear in medicine. It may be related to staying up late, working pressure, long-term fatigue, lack of sleep, etc. When a person is highly stressed, ear vasoconstriction leads to hypoxia, and deafness occurs.
Blow your nose incorrectly
· Many people blow their noses and pinch the noses on both sides with two fingers, and then forcefully blow the nose out. If the pressure is too great to be released from the nose, it will go to the ears and throat. Excessive force may cause perforation of the membrane.
Partying, visiting KTV
· The level of exposure to 100 decibels of music for 15 minutes may be equivalent to the level reached by a worker who is exposed to 85 decibels for 8 hours a day. Even exposure to high decibel levels in these entertainment venues for a short time is harmful. Habitual exposure will gradually cause hearing loss.
Use a hard object to dig out your ears
· The ear canal has a self-draining and self-cleaning function. Most people’s earwax can be discharged on their own. It is recommended that if there is no ear discomfort, try not to remove your ears. Don’t use toothpicks, hairpins, matches, and other things that can easily damage the skin of the ear canal or even the membrane.
Long-term “talking on the phone”
· Many people like to “talk on the phone”, a dozen minutes or even an hour. Frequent answering or answering the phone for a long time may cause hearing loss and neurological deafness. Experts suggest that it is best to make a phone call for no more than 3 minutes.
wear earphones when taking the subway or bus
· Listening to music on public transportation or private cars, the volume needs to be adjusted to cover the transportation, so the decibels will be higher than when it is quiet. Prolonged exposure to this condition can easily damage hearing.
Don’t pay attention to swallowing when flying
· When the plane is taking off or landing, the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the tympanum is too large due to the rapid descent from high altitude, which is easy to cause middle ear damage. Many people will feel dullness and pain in their ears, swelling of the tympanic membrane, and the sound they hear changes. Minority, dizziness, and other symptoms. You should pay attention to swallowing, and if necessary, use drugs to constrict blood vessels.

//
01
1. Don’t leave your child in a noisy place for a long time
If children are exposed to various noises such as machine roar, vehicle noise, and human voice for a long time, they will cause hearing fatigue, rapid hearing loss, and even cause noise-induced deafness.
//
//
02
2. Try not to dig out the ears for children
Frequently use ear picks and match sticks to dig out your ears, which can easily damage the ear canal, cause infection, inflammation, and may damage the eardrum. When children’s ear canals are itchy and uncomfortable, parents can use a cotton swab to moisten the ear canal with a little alcohol or glycerin or take vitamin B, C, and cod liver oil orally. If the itching is uncomfortable, the editor recommends that you should seek medical treatment in time to avoid delaying the best treatment time.

3. Reduce the talk time of young children using electronic devices
Many times parents will let young children answer the phone calls of some family members, sometimes for a long time. The editor hereby reminds parents and friends that we should minimize the time that children spend on mobile phones to avoid ear damage caused by long-term calls. When possible, a hands-free function should be used to reduce hearing damage.
