The origin of Minor Snow
春秋战国时期,楚国人伍子胥为报父仇投奔吴国,想从吴国借兵讨伐楚国。来到吴国后,他帮助吴王阖闾坐稳了江山,成了吴国的有功之臣。不久,他率领吴兵攻破楚国都城郢,掘楚王墓鞭尸报了仇雪了恨。吴王叫他修建了著名的阖闾大城,以防侵略。城建成后,吴王大喜,伍子胥却闷闷不乐。伍子胥对身边人说:“大王喜而忘忧,不会有好下场。我死后,如国家有难,百姓受饥,在相门城下掘地三尺,可找到充饥的食物。”

夫差继位后,伍子胥曾多次劝谏吴王夫差杀勾践,夫差不听,而后还听信谗言,令伍子胥自刎身亡。不久,越国勾践举兵伐吴,把吴国都城团团围住。当时正值年关,天寒地冻,城内民众断食,饿殍遍野。危难之际,人们想起了伍子胥生前的嘱咐,暗中拆城墙挖地,发现城基都是用熟糯米压制成的砖石。原来,伍子胥建城时,将大批糯米蒸熟压成砖块放凉后,作为城墙的基石,储备下了备荒粮。后来,每到丰年,人们就用糯米制成城砖一样的糍粑,以此纪念伍子胥。

民间有:“冬腊风腌,蓄以御冬”的习俗。小雪后气温急剧下降,天气变得干燥,是加工腊肉的好时候。小雪节气后,一些农家开始动手做香肠、腊肉,把多余的肉类用传统方法储备起来,等到春节时正好享受美食。

晒鱼干

小雪时,乌鱼群旗鱼、沙鱼等会在小雪前后来到台湾海峡,台湾中南部海边的渔民们则会开始晒鱼干、储存乾粮。台湾俗谚:十月豆,肥到不见头,是指在嘉义县布袋一带,到了农历十月可以捕到“豆仔鱼”。
